This Central Intelligence Agency cable, dated 10 May 1969, reports on a 7 May visit to a university in connection with an agency research contract. The officer reviewed contract files and destroyed two memoranda naming the sponsor, and noted that several university officials had been briefed and would support the arrangement. It also describes SDS and Brown Beret chapters on campus and a contingency plan to announce that research would move off campus to a new foundation-owned building. It adds that the files had been purged of incriminating material.

4. JY SEPT 1969, NEW BUILDING WILL BE COMPLETE. CONTINGENCY PLAN AS RECOMMENDED TO UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT IS TO ANNOUNCE NO FURTHER RESEARCH WILL BE CONDUCTED ON CAMPUS. THIS POSSIBLE SINCE NEW WILL BE ON LAND OWNED FOUNDATION (ALUMNI GROUP) AND TITLE WILL NOT PASS TO UNIVERSITY UNTIL MORTGAGE ON NEW BUILDING PAID OFF (5 YEAR MORTGAGE). DOES NOT BELIEVE THIS SOPHISTRY WILL IMPRESS SDS IN EVENT OF VIOLENCE BUT THERE ARE NOW NO INCRIMINATING DOCUMENTS IN FILES. FILES HAVE BEEN PURGED AND ALL CLASSIFIED MATERIAL REDUCED TO ABOUT 1 INCH TOTAL
