This is the President's Intelligence Checklist for 19 September 1961, a Central Intelligence Agency daily briefing released in 2016 with redactions. Its main item covers the Congo crisis after Hammarskjold's death: Irish troops at Jadotville had surrendered, fighting had spread in Katanga, and UN forces were only holding positions. It also covers Algerian rebel leaders meeting Ambassador Walmsley and notes a Soviet fighter incident in the Berlin air corridors. It does not discuss UFOs.

The UN's military predicament stems from several factors, Neither the UN officials in charge nor the nations contributing troops want a military solution, and have since the first day of hostilities held back local commanders.
