This is a TASS English-language wire report dated 9 January 1992, released by the Central Intelligence Agency. It describes Russian President Boris Yeltsin starting a working visit to Ulyanovsk with a tour of the aircraft building complex that had recently been reorganised as the Aviastar joint-stock society. Yeltsin was shown what the report calls the world's first thermoplane, which the plant built with the Moscow Aviation Institute. Its designers believed the saucer-shaped craft could soon be widely used in the economy.

Designers believe thermoplanes, which have the form of "flying saucers" may soon find broad application in various branches of economy and in forbidding areas of the country. 5 Boris Yeltsin spent an hour and a half talking to managers of the plant.
