This Central Intelligence Agency memorandum, dated October 1955 and approved for release in 2010, records a sighting of an unusual flying object from a train. A traveler on a sleeping car describes how a companion saw a flying saucer, and how he then saw a glowing searchlight on the horizon and an object with two white lights rising vertically and passing over the train in silence. The file also contains interrogation notes and interview notes on the same sighting from other witnesses, with names redacted.

# --- MEMORANDUM FOR: Chief, Observation of Flying Object Near During my trip inside that country a number of people were present in the area. I was one of four persons who observed an unusual flying object in the area. Following are the details of my own observation of this object, to the best of my recollection: 1. Our trip from New York to the train was planned according to timetables available in the railway and we were originally scheduled to leave early during daylight. Apparently the officials responsible in the railway did not know about certain changes which had been made in the train schedules, and our schedule was altered in the train. We left about 1600 hours on Tuesday. Our accommodations were in a "soft" sleeping car of the international type, consisting of six two-person compartments. The car was occupied as follows: Compartment 1. - Porter 2. - probably empty 4. - Hyphen and a dot on American civilian who was traveling on private business. 6. - A young civilian, about 26 years old, probably ```markdown ``` The car was arranged with departments all on one side, the left side as one faced forward, with an aisle on the right side. There were windows in the compartments and on the outside of the aisle, but not in the aisle wall of the compartments. However, during the time of the observation, the door to my compartment was open, so that movement of persons in the aisle would have been observable. My rescollection in that the window of my compartment may have been open a little way from the top. Prior to the time of observation, were all together in compartment 4. 2. Proceed the train traveled slowly along the generally southerly direction. Before the train turned at a right angle you want to his own compartment to rect and turned off the light in Compartment 3. After the train turned westward. 3. About ten minutes after we had passed, returned to Department 4, and, with great excitement, said, "I just saw a flying saucer!"
