This is a letter dated 8 May 1958 from Philip G. Strong of the Central Intelligence Agency to Dr. Lloyd V. Berkner, president of Associated Universities, Inc. It is an interim reply to Berkner's letter of 21 April and its enclosures about Dr. Davidson. Strong notes that similar letters from Davidson and Major Kehoe had been referred to the Air Force. He calls a statement by Huppelt, quoted by Davidson, about "orders" to the Panel completely without foundation.

## Dear Lloyd: Your letter of 21 April with the enclosures dealing with Dr. Davidson were waiting for me on my return from a month's trip abroad. Shortly before my departure, similar letters had come to us from Dr. Davidson and also from Major Kehoe. This correspondence was referred to the Air Force for appropriate action and, since receipt of your letter, I have been in touch with the officers concerned to find out what the present status is and what guidance I might give you in the matter. Unfortunately, I will not be able to get together with them until sometime next week, so this is in the nature only of an interim acknowledgment. I will write you again when I know more about the present status of the matter. One point I might make of which you are of course well aware is that the statement made by Huppelt quoted by Davidson concerning "orders" to the Panel is completely without foundation. Best regards.
