This FBIS translation, relayed through the Joint Staff in May 1992, carries a 13 May 1992 Xinhua report on the Fourth National Congress of the China UFO Society. The congress confirmed that China would study UFOs under dialectical materialist principles and modern natural science. The report says more than 5,000 UFO reports had been registered on the Chinese mainland over the past decade or so. It also cites Chinese research on ball lightning and on flying object design, and quotes acting president Wang Changting calling for more international cooperation.
