This Central Intelligence Agency document, dated 4 April 1975, is a short and heavily redacted report on UFO sightings, filed under a USSR heading. It records a conversation in which a source was asked whether a U.S. forecast center had ever dealt with UFO sightings. The source said the center had once been plagued with calls about sightings, some prompted by its scientific balloon flights. The source added, half jokingly, that the calls had stopped because someone must have made a political decision.

ON ONE OCCASION ASKED IF THE U.S. FORECAST CENTER HAS EVER BOTHERED WITH UFO SIGHTINGS. HE EXPLAINED THAT AT ONE TIME THE AND IN PARTICULAR, HAD BEEN PLAGUED WITH CALLS AND QUESTIONS ABOUT UFO SIGHTINGS. HE SAID THAT SOME OF THEIR SCIENTIFIC BALLOON FLIGHTS HAD PROMPTED SOME OF THEM. NOW, HE SAID, HE NEVER GETS THESE CALLS ANYMORE AND HALF JOAKINGLY SURMISED THAT SOMEONE MUST HAVE MADE A POLITICAL DECISION THAT THEY WERE NOT TO BE SIGNED ANYMORE. F165
