This 1967 memorandum from the Director of the CIA's National Photographic Interpretation Center (NPIC) informs a CIA deputy director that the U.S. Air Force contract with the University of Colorado to investigate UFOs is underway. The contract is worth $325,000 and is scheduled to run 18 months. The author asks for approval to host the project's scientists at NPIC for a technical briefing on photogrammetry. He states that the CIA would take no part in the project's conclusions but could keep a window on the program.

SURJECT: U. S. Air Force Contract with the University of Colorado to Report on the UIO Situation 4. I can accommodate this USAF request but before doing so I would like your approval. I have told USAF representatives that I can have no part in writing whatever they might conclude on this UK phenomenon but that I might be able to help them technically and thereby add to the government's cost effectiveness program. At the same time I might be able to preserve a CLA window on this program for whatever use DIGET night want to make of it. 5. I think that we should keep some views on this effort. Should you decide that I must refuse the visitors a technical briefing at LPIC, I would still recommend that two of our technical people be permitted to conduct a photogrammetric round-table discussion for the scientists elsewhere. ## ARTIUR C.
