REPERANDUM FOR THE RECORD:

SUBJECT: Intelligence Responsibilities for Non-Conventional Types of Air Vehicles

REFERENCE:

Necoronium from AD/3I to Ops/3I, ASD/3I and PLE/3I or May 20, 1954.

1. As requested by the referenced memorandum, the allocation of intelligence responsibilities in regard to the non-conventional air vehicles, similar to those currently under development by the Canadian, British and USAF organizations, has been considered by ASD/3I, Ops/3I and PSE/3I.

## 2. It is agreed that:

a. ASD/SI will be responsible for the initiation and proper exploitation of all intelligence measures required to identify, to assess and to report the use by any foreign power or nation of non-conventional types of air vehicles, such as or similar to the "succer-like" planes presently under development by the Anglo/Br Canadian efforts. In this, ASD/SI will rely upon normal assistance of all other elements of OSI, substantive and staff, of the same kind that it receives in regard to other weapons and weapon systems presently within its normal intelligence activities.

b. PLE/SI will continue to be responsible for the GSI project on "unidentified" flying objects, will maintain the GSI central file on such objects and will make available to ASD/SI the material of this file which might bear directly or indirectly upon non-conventional air vehicles capable of "weapon" applications. It will retain its normal responsibilities in regard to electronic aspects of these vehicles (such as navight, coal and guidance methods, techniques and equipments, etc.) and will assist ASD/SI in all matters falling within its intelligence responsibilities as these might be required to fully assess the capabilities and limitations of the non-conventional air vehicles considered as weapons or weapon systems.
