This Central Intelligence Agency letter of 20 May 1958 is from Philip Strong of the Office of Scientific Intelligence to Dr. Lloyd V. Berkner of Associated Universities. It follows up an 8 May letter about correspondence from Leon Davidson. Strong encloses an exchange of letters between Davidson and Bob Robertson and urges Berkner to reply in the same spirit. He is also writing to the other panel members, Alvarez, Goudsmit and Page, hoping a solid front will discourage Davidson. Strong says CIA replies have only acknowledged receipt and told Davidson that his queries were forwarded to the Air Force.

Since I wrote you on 0 May, Mr. Davidson has kept the pot rolling hard and many things have occurred. Of the most important of these is an exchange of correspondence between him and Bob Robertson. I am enclosing a copy of the two letters they exchanged and recommend strongly that you enjoy the general tenor of Bob's letter in your reply to Davidson. I can also writing the other three panel members, Alvarze, Gordesit, and Page, and sending then copies of the Robertson/Davidson exchange. This is being done in anticipation of their being bordered by Davidson as you and Deb have been. Perhaps a solid front erected between the panel members and Davidson will discourage him. He is taking our too much of all our time and effort. In those cases where we have been required to correspond directly with Davidsen, our reply has been solely one of acknowledging receipt and admiring him that his queries had been forwarded to the Air Force for appropriate action.
