This Central Intelligence Agency information report, dated October 1955, relays observations of a flying object in the USSR. On three evenings in July and August 1954, observers about 30 km west of Saransk saw a white, drop-shaped luminous object brighter than a shooting star. It crossed about 60 degrees of sky in roughly a second, and other people saw the same thing on other days. The evaluator's comment says the type of object cannot be inferred from such scanty statements.

On three evenings between 2100 and 2300 in July and August 1954, it was observed from Pi Corp in Potkker, 30 km west Sarnaka, USSR, that a white trip-shaped glomer that was wider than a white flare but brighter than a shining shooting star moved straight west to west north of the crop and apparently retraced the same altitude. The sky was 2/10 overcast. Other PVs rode the same observation on other days at the same hour. The flying object itself could not be seen but only the clean white luminous intensity did not change. To trail was observed very close to the source of the lines heard. The observations were made at an elevation angle of about 65 degrees and in an azimuth angle of about 62 degrees, since further observations of the flight path was obstructed by trees. The plane required about 1 second for flying through this angle of 60 degrees. When the observation was made for the first time, the PVs believed they had seen a shooting star since the phenomenon appeared and disappeared so quickly. When the phenomenon was observed several times, however, it was assumed to be a flying body.
