The object first appeared as a V of five to seven lights over the Paulden/Prescott area at about 3000 m, drifting slowly southeast toward the Phoenix metro, where it passed directly overhead in silence and occluded the stars before continuing southeast toward Tucson at roughly 2400 m. The intermediate leg between Prescott and Phoenix is an inferred path, and the timing of the Phoenix passage is essentially guessed — only the initial sighting has both reported position and reported timing, and all altitudes are estimates. A second, separate event around 10 p.m. put a row of amber lights above the Estrella Mountains southwest of the city, at a position that was reported but whose track is inferred. Those lights hung stationary for several minutes while slowly descending from about 1800 m to 1000 m, then winked out one by one behind the range, with that final disappearance placed at an inferred time.
