Organisation 3 stories, 1987 to 1989

The Soviet security service runs through several of the archive's Cold War cases. On 24 October 1991 it sent pilot-cosmonaut Pavel Popovich 124 printed pages, which became known as the Blue Folder. One case began at the airport dispatch centre in Mineralnye Vody in 1987. KGB agents gathered the signed statements and recorded no conclusion. At Kapustin Yar on the night of 28 July 1989, seven military witnesses gave statements. Four wrote theirs by hand after KGB questioning, and the short summary named no cause. A tabloid tale of Soviet soldiers turned to stone in Siberia claimed a 250-page KGB file. No such file has ever turned up.
