This is Government Attic's posting of a 1969 Library of Congress annotated bibliography, UFOs and Related Subjects, compiled by Lynn E. Catoe for the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. The Defense Technical Information Center released it under FOIA in November 2014. The bibliography lists more than 1,600 items and was requested to support the University of Colorado UFO study led by Edward U. Condon. Its preface concludes that no simple, single explanation of the UFO phenomenon applies to all cases.

Edwards, Frank. Are our satellites bunting the saucers? Fate, v. 16, May 1963: 29-35. Within the 24-month period following 1947-1948 appearance c1 UFOs in the re- gion ol the South Pole, Argentina, Chile, Australia, France~ Great Britain, the Ul!ited states, SWeden, and the Soviet Union sent expeditions to the A'ltarc- tic. Tangible developments were (1) motion and still pictures of disc-shaped objects that circled ships under Chilean commander Orrego; and (2) realiution that objects presumably entered earth's atmosphere at polar regions for area- son. On March 2, 1958, telemetry from Explorer satellites confirmed existence mzone of intense radiation - Van Allen belt - encircling earth about 600 miles out from equator. Author says that the scientific community which, in 1957, ''derided, denounced a.'ld dismissed" the possibility of a Soviet-launched earth satellite, is probably just as misguided cu:rrently in negative attitude regarding the reality of fiying saucers. ------ Frank Edwards' report: ten years of UFOs.
