The Apparitions and Miracles at Knock; also, the Official Depositions of the Eye-witnesses

M.H. Gill & Son (1880), via Internet Archive · 1880 · 90 pages · text from the file's own layer

This book was prepared and edited by John MacPhilpin of Tuam and published in Dublin by M. H. Gill & Son in 1880. It reprints Tuam News reports on the apparition of the Blessed Virgin, St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist, which about twenty people saw on the south gable of Knock chapel, County Mayo, on 21 August 1879. It also gives the witnesses' official depositions, which a commission of priests appointed by the Archbishop of Tuam judged trustworthy. It lists cures recorded in Archdeacon Cavanagh's diary.

muttered petitions making a continuous and solemn hum.
Many sick have been brought there, and some professed to
have gained much benefit. A poor paralytic, seated in a
wheeled chair, rejoiced at a feeling of warmth in his lower
limbs ; a woman, who had crawled for years on her hands
and knees, was found sitting upright, and delightedly show
ing how she could use her feet a very little. Such sights
were visible more or less on every hand, and as the arch
deacon went about among the people one and another would
go to him and tell of the benefits received by themselves or
their friends, and get for answer : " Thank God and his
Blessed Mother."
My story is told, and I have nothing more to say. The
conclusion to be drawn from it one way or another is the
business of the reader.
