This is NASA's press kit for Space Shuttle mission STS-75, dated February 1996 and later edited by Richard W. Orloff. It covers Columbia's planned 13-day flight carrying the Italian Tethered Satellite System reflight (TSS-1R) and the third United States Microgravity Payload. The kit sets out launch and landing plans, abort modes, the timeline, payload weights, crew duties, the tether's science objectives and investigators, and crew biographies. It does not mention any unidentified objects.

Orloff, 01/2001/Page 2 STS-75 INSIGNIA STS075-S-001 -- The STS-75 insignia depicts the space shuttle Columbia and the Tethered Satellite connected by a 21 km electrically conduction tether. The Orbiter/satellite system is passing through the Earth's magnetic field which, like an electric generator, will produce thousands of volts of electricity. Columbia is carrying the United States Microgravity Pallet to conduct microgravity research in material science and thermodynamics. The tether is crossing the Earth's terminator signifying the dawn of a new era for space tether applications and in mankind's knowledge of the Earth's ionosphere, material science, and thermodynamics. The insignia was designed for the STS-75 crew by apace artist Mike Sanni. The NASA insignia design for space shuttle flights is reserved for use by the astronauts and for other official use as the NASA Administrator may authorize. Public availability has been approved only in the form of illustrations by the various news media.
