This FBI file, 62-HQ-83894 Sub A, collects newspaper clippings on flying saucers that the Bureau filed between 1947 and 1960. They include July 1947 reports of discs over Portland, Idaho, Seattle and Washington, and a Grand Blanc, Michigan pizza maker's complaint about his moon photograph. There are also clippings on Reinhold Schmidt's November 1957 space ship claim at Kearney, Nebraska, the Coast Guard cutter Sebago radar sighting, Carl Jung's 1958 remarks, and Captain Peter Killian's 1959 airliner sighting.

SAUSAGE" COLLIDED WI TH Hrs: PLANE AND "EXPLODED LIKE A BOMB"--BUT CAUSED_
NO DAMAGE.
GRAHAM, CHIEF PILOT FOR THE CAPITAL AVIATION COMPANY HERE, WAS
FLYING TO SPRINGFIELD FROM CHICAGO LAST NIGHT WHEN HE SIGHTED THE
OBJECT AS HE FLEW OVER WILLIAMSVILLE, JUST NORTH OF HERE.
HE SAID THE OBJECT WAS A "BLUE STREAK ABOUT 10 FEET LONG AND SHAPED
LIKE A SAUSAGE." HE SAID IT WAS TRAILING YELLOW FIRE.
THE OBJECT, WHICH WAS SLIGHTLY ABOVE HIS PLANE, DIVED SUDDENLY AND
PLOUGHED DIRECTLY INTO HIS PROPELLER.
"IT EXPLODED LIKE A _BOMB WHEN IT STRUCK," HE SAID.
GRAHAM MANAGED TO STAY ON COURSE AND LANDED AT CAPITAL AIRPORT HERE.
HE EXPECTED TO FIND HIS PLANE EXTENSIVELY DAMAGED, HE SAID, BUT A
THOROUGH INSPECTION SHOWED NOTHING.
SEVERAL OTHER SPRINGFIELD RESIDENTS ALSO REPORTED SEEING THE
"FLYING SAUSAGE." ONE WOMAN SAID SHE AND HER HUSBAND WERE SITTING ON
THEIR PORCH AND SAW rr PASS OVER SPRINGFIELD.
OBSERVERS AT THE WEATHER BUREAU SAID THE ONLY EXPLANATION THEY COULj
OFFER WAS THAT THE OBJECT MIGHT HAVE BEEN A METEOR THAT APPEARED TO HI
GRAHAM'S PLANE BUT EXPLODED RIGHT IN FRONT OF IT. THEY SAID THEY DID
NOT SEE THE OBJECT.
