This section of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's flying saucer file 62-HQ-83894 holds FBI correspondence from 1957 to 1966. It includes a November 1957 memo saying Air Force Intelligence found the post-Sputnik sightings nonauthentic, and a Havana report of a hat-shaped disc over Matahambre, Cuba. It also has inquiries into Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation, a Torrington, Connecticut sighting referral, and replies to members of the public. The replies say UFOs are not within FBI jurisdiction and refer writers to the Air Force.

The FBI's 62-HQ-83894 case file includes investigative records, eyewitness testimonies, and public reports concerning Unidentified Flying Objects and flying discs documented between June 1947 and July 1968. The records include high-profile incident accounts, photographic evidence from sites like Oak Ridge, TN, and technical proposals regarding potential propulsion systems. Additional topics include convention programs, researcher accounts, and extensive media coverage from the period. This file is partially posted on FBI vault with more redactions and some pages missing. Included here is the complete case file with several newly declassified pages and only minor redactions.

BENDER MISCELLANEOUS - INFORMATION OONCERNING (Nationalities Intelligence) The Bureau desires to obtain a copy of the book written by Gray Barker entitled "They Knew Too Much About Flrlng Saucers." Reportedly. this book was published by Un verslty Books, Inc., 806 Dempster Street , Evanston, Illinois. Contact this publishing house and if possible, obtain a copy of this book. NOTE: By letter 12/7/58 Claude Marek . Jr., Phoenix , Arizona, wrote the Bureau inquiring about the "Bender Affair." He ex plained that Bender formed the International Flying Saucer Bureau in Connecticut in 1952 to look into the flying saucer mystery. In 1953 Bender stated he knew what the saucers are; then , according to Marek , "3 men in bl ack sults"silenced Bender to the extent that even today Bender will not discuss the matter of his "hush-up" with anyone. Marek was interviewed 12/19/58 and with respect to the "Bender Affair" he referred the inter viewing Agents to the book set out above. In addition to information regarding this incident it is possible this book may contain other data of interest. Accordingly, Phoenix was instructed to reinterview Marek to obtain a copy of the book and/or the true name of the publisher which Marek had stated was "University Books Publlsher,"with no address indicated. In Phoenix letter 1/5/59 it is pointed out that Marek has moved to Denver, exact address not available but that University Books , Inc., is located at the above address. JFW:jac (4) ~ 1 MAILED 27.
