This section of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's flying saucer file 62-HQ-83894 holds FBI correspondence from 1957 to 1966. It includes a November 1957 memo saying Air Force Intelligence found the post-Sputnik sightings nonauthentic, and a Havana report of a hat-shaped disc over Matahambre, Cuba. It also has inquiries into Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation, a Torrington, Connecticut sighting referral, and replies to members of the public. The replies say UFOs are not within FBI jurisdiction and refer writers to the Air Force.

The FBI's 62-HQ-83894 case file includes investigative records, eyewitness testimonies, and public reports concerning Unidentified Flying Objects and flying discs documented between June 1947 and July 1968. The records include high-profile incident accounts, photographic evidence from sites like Oak Ridge, TN, and technical proposals regarding potential propulsion systems. Additional topics include convention programs, researcher accounts, and extensive media coverage from the period. This file is partially posted on FBI vault with more redactions and some pages missing. Included here is the complete case file with several newly declassified pages and only minor redactions.

On October 2, 1961, Mr. Stringfield advised the Cincinnati otfice, l'BI, Cincinnati, Ohio, that he had noted an article in the Sunday edition of the Cincinnati Enquirer, October 1, 1961, on page l, section B, under the caption, "Oftbeat -CWaahington", which contained one paragraph, "So• Defense Department b1gw1ga are apprehena1ve that uaa1a will climax its c~IIG)a1gn or 1nt111l1dat1on by a. spectaculM- explosion 1n apace--an immense nuclear blast vialble to hundreds of m1111ona or people. These otticials believe that the Soviet Union haa the capability or setting oft suoh an elrJ)loaion 200 milea · or 110 above the earth whe1..e 1t could be aeen from many oountr1ea." Mr. Stringfield advised that the above paragraph was printed as a reprint from the Herald Tribune News Service, Washington, D.C., and that this article seemed to tJe in well with what the caller· had related to Mr. !tringfield in the anonymous telephone call on September 25, 1961. -3-
