Federal Bureau of Investigation · 290 pages · text from the file's own layer

This section of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's flying saucer file 62-HQ-83894 holds FBI correspondence from 1957 to 1966. It includes a November 1957 memo saying Air Force Intelligence found the post-Sputnik sightings nonauthentic, and a Havana report of a hat-shaped disc over Matahambre, Cuba. It also has inquiries into Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation, a Torrington, Connecticut sighting referral, and replies to members of the public. The replies say UFOs are not within FBI jurisdiction and refer writers to the Air Force.

In public and in private the man infers that he is a
former member of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Thie "Dr . ~tranges ( Doetor of What? -- hae never been
explained.)i s ry careful of hie wording, in speech and in
writing, inferri g many things, yet doing ao in a manner that
will allow him to deny them, if necessary.
He quite skilfully avoids answering directly to direct
questions.
Al l of t his ie done in a manner indicating that he ie
rather careless of the truth, yet the sort of thing that is
pretty hard to pin down.
"Dr . 11 Stranges has coupled hie "Flying Saucers " with a
religious theme in such a manne r that he is invited to occupy
the pu l pit in churches around the land.
It is my pe rsonal opinion that the man i s using the churches
f or his private g~in. (Tax free, no doubt.)
I am not aware that he has broken the law in any res pect,
but from a moral stand point, he is, I feel, worse than a law
breaker.
He will be coming again to my church in a fe'IV v•eeks, and
on the occasion of his other visit t o ld several quite patent
lies.
If t his man is either by law, or morally, a fraud I am
quite opposed to his a ppearance in my church.
I would appreciate kno~ing if he is, in t ruth, a former
member of your organization.
