This section of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's flying saucer file 62-HQ-83894 holds FBI correspondence from 1957 to 1966. It includes a November 1957 memo saying Air Force Intelligence found the post-Sputnik sightings nonauthentic, and a Havana report of a hat-shaped disc over Matahambre, Cuba. It also has inquiries into Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation, a Torrington, Connecticut sighting referral, and replies to members of the public. The replies say UFOs are not within FBI jurisdiction and refer writers to the Air Force.

Enclosed is a letterhead memorandum regarding a
speech given by Mr . VAN TASSEL. One copy or this memorandum
has been made available to the Office of Special Investiga
tions (OSI), Lowry Air Force Base, Denver •
.
The enclosed memorandum is being furnished for
the information of the Bureau and the Los Angeles, San
Diego, and San Francisco Offices, as VAN TASSEL is alleged •
to be from Giant Rock, California, which town is not located
by Denver in the Postal Guide or available maps.
SA THOMAS STEPHEN KELLY attended this lecture
on Sunday, 4/17/60, after hearing of its impending
presentation over the radio. He recognized no one at this
meeting and was known to no one at the meeting.
On 4/19/60 Phipps Auditorium, Denver, was tele
phonically contacted and they advised that arrangements for
the speech of Mr. VAN TASSEL had been made with LLOYD ARNOLD,
telephone BElmont 7-5775. The 1959 Lakewood, Colorado City
Directory reflects LLOYD L. ARNOLD, Arnold Engineering
Associates, 1940 Sims, telephone BElmont 7-5775.
