This section of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's flying saucer file 62-HQ-83894 holds FBI correspondence from 1957 to 1966. It includes a November 1957 memo saying Air Force Intelligence found the post-Sputnik sightings nonauthentic, and a Havana report of a hat-shaped disc over Matahambre, Cuba. It also has inquiries into Robert T. Stone's Inter Continental Aerial Research Foundation, a Torrington, Connecticut sighting referral, and replies to members of the public. The replies say UFOs are not within FBI jurisdiction and refer writers to the Air Force.

be flying saucers. At his request Bureau agents c ontacted
him and he furnished them the phot ographs which were turned
over t o l ocal OSI representatives . Perr y r eported incident
t o the press which carried artitles indicating FBI i«Js
investigating. We straightened out the ''Detroit Times"
on this point. Perry by letter dated J - 21 - 60 wrote t o
President Eisenhower pointing out he did not know where
his photographs were but he woul d like assurance that
they would be returned t o him. Special Agents of Detroit
OJ/ice on 4 -12-60 informed Perry that the phot ographs he
had v oluntarily turned over t o them had been furni s hed to
OSI, Se l fridge Air Force Base, and that the Department of
the Aiir Force had been flu rnish ed a copy of his l etter t o
the President. Perry in his 4-lJ-60 Jetter thanked the
Director f or relaying the message from the White House and
indicated he was l ooking f orwa rd t o the c ompleti on oJ Air
Force analysis of his photographs s o that "your offi ce " would
be able t o return them t o him. He pointed out that
"thousands are l ooking f orward" t o viewing the phot ographs.
