This is Section 5 of the FBI's flying disk file 62-HQ-83894, made up of 1949 and 1950 correspondence. Most of it covers a letter sent to Walter Winchell by Peter Camerlon Jones, who said he saw a silver top-shaped object near Los Angeles in 1947. The Los Angeles office could not find him, and the Bureau suggested the letter was a prank. The section also holds a Navy intelligence report on 6 or 7 discs seen over southern Oregon on 27 May 1949, plus several letters from citizens.

(B) At 2230 hours 2nd Mar and again at 0030 hours 3rd Mar station picked up object, moving same direction locality and altitude. (C) Density of object similar to DC-3 airplane, speed not established but report as "terrific". 2. CIA Radar Technician reportedly arrives Knoxville today to check radar set and operation. 3. Arrangement reportedly made by FBI with Naval and Marine Reserve Unit Knoxville to set up radar equipment to verify reception of WRQL radar station. 4. All information on this subject this headquarters has been turned over to A-2 Fourteenth Air Force.
