This Federal Bureau of Investigation file section (62-HQ-83894, Section 4) collects 1947 to 1949 correspondence on flying discs. It includes Portland police officers' accounts of a silvery object over the city on September 11, 1947, an Alaska pilot's July 1947 sighting near Bethel, citizen letters answered by J. Edgar Hoover, and a 1948 Air Defense Command directive on disc investigations. The FBI replied that it was conducting no flying disc investigations. Later items concern William Albert Rhodes's disc photographs and a Los Angeles letter judged a probable prank.

Harding Avenue, Chicago 25, Illinois, was referred to my office from the 11188 Director's Office. Miss Lochrie stated she was going to be in Washington for a few da~s that she was staying at the .Ambassador Hotel. She stated that Ro Palmer, Managing E:clitor of the,Je,ff Davis Publishing Ccmpany in Chica had some infonnation regardiog'--nying discs. Miss Lochrie said that Palmer's theory was to the effect that when people died their souls entered a space on this earth which is, of course, invisible to human eyes. He said that in this soul world there are good arxi bad people am that they have become involved in a war. According to Miss Lochrie, Palmer's theory is that the flying discs which have been seen are the explosives be ing used in the warfare between the good am bad souls. N,iss Lochrie stated that the real purpose of her visit to the Bureau was to get her own name cleared. She said that the FBI has been con ducting investigation regarding her arxi that she wanted to know the results of the investigation. I asked her what kind of an investigation the FBI had been making regarding her and she stated she was under suspicion of espionage activities. I informed her that I could not furnish her l'd.th any information which is contained in the Bureau's files inasmuch as our files have been designated as confidential by the Attorney General. Miss Lochrie accepted this explanation am stated regarding her present activities that she had been in the Wacs as a private am bad re ceived an honorable discharge in 1945.
