This section of the FBI's 1947 flying disc file (62-HQ-83894) collects correspondence between FBI field offices and Army Air Forces intelligence. It includes a Portland prospector's claim to have seen disc objects near Mount Adams on June 24, 1947, an Air Force report on the August 1 crash near Kelso, Washington that killed investigators Davidson and Brown, and the Maury Island claims of Dahl and Crisman. Other items are an MIT analysis of cast iron fragments from New Hampshire, the A. C. Urie Twin Falls sighting, and the Bureau's decision to stop its disc investigations.

This file is partially posted on FBI vault with more redactions and some pages missing. Included here is the complete case file with several newly declassified pages and only minor redactions.

Montana State Prison, Door Lodgo, Montana., has advised the writer that while driving between Ellensburg and Seattle, Washing• ton, about 3:30 P.M., on May 61 1947, ha sighted a silver object streaking aoross the sky. This was also seen by MELBOURlTE J.t<lfILL. con-net chauffeur, and Yrs. HElffiY• This objeot wont into a nose dive and they thought it would crash. However, before reaching the earth it disintegrated, leaving a long pillar of 1'gas" hanging in the sky. It was partioularly odd ·oecause this re mained in form and did not blOW' uwo.y. It was observed by these three people while they drove from twenty to thirty miles. )i ~ ..- ~ This smoky, gaseous pillar was a long ways ofr'imtt"Yema'i'n'ea:J.ligh 'v11i..,,/' in the air. Warden HERRY said that this silver object was traveling at an / !' exoassively high rate of speed and when it disintegrated it was atill a long ~y f rO!:l the earth. Warden HENRY said when he .first sa.w it he thought it was probably a jet propelled plane but that he ·couldn't tell except that its mo- tions were erratio. Ho said ha had not reported it tmtil he had noticod so mu.ch in the papers about these discs. Although thre~ people saw it, they de- cided tha.t they must be "seeing things"• The Seattle Office is requested to advise Mr. H. R. PETERSON, 4th Air Foroe, s-2, McChord Field, Washington.
