This section of the FBI's 1947 flying disc file (62-HQ-83894) collects correspondence between FBI field offices and Army Air Forces intelligence. It includes a Portland prospector's claim to have seen disc objects near Mount Adams on June 24, 1947, an Air Force report on the August 1 crash near Kelso, Washington that killed investigators Davidson and Brown, and the Maury Island claims of Dahl and Crisman. Other items are an MIT analysis of cast iron fragments from New Hampshire, the A. C. Urie Twin Falls sighting, and the Bureau's decision to stop its disc investigations.

This file is partially posted on FBI vault with more redactions and some pages missing. Included here is the complete case file with several newly declassified pages and only minor redactions.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has agreed to assist Air Force Intelligence personnel in the invest!. gation of "flying disc" inoidents in order to quickly and effectively rule out what are pranks and to conoentrate on what appears to be a genuine inoident. 2. It was the original intent of the AC/AS-2, Headquarters, Army Air Foroes that whereas the ADC Air Foroes would interview respon sible observers whose names would be furnished by AAF, the FBI would investigate incidents of so called "discs" being found on the ground. The services of the FBI were enlisted in order to relieve the numbered Air Forces of the task of tracking down all the many instances which turned out to be ash can covers, toilet seats and whatnot. 3. It is requested that each A-2 informally coordinate and cooperate with the FBI, generally keeping the FBI informed of any proposed calls that intelligence personnel will make on this subject. Ve ry shortly, with the separation of the AAF' from the War Department, a firm polioy will be established to clarify the liaison arrangements between A-2•s and FBI Speoial Agents.
