This section of the FBI's 1947 flying disc file (62-HQ-83894) collects correspondence between FBI field offices and Army Air Forces intelligence. It includes a Portland prospector's claim to have seen disc objects near Mount Adams on June 24, 1947, an Air Force report on the August 1 crash near Kelso, Washington that killed investigators Davidson and Brown, and the Maury Island claims of Dahl and Crisman. Other items are an MIT analysis of cast iron fragments from New Hampshire, the A. C. Urie Twin Falls sighting, and the Bureau's decision to stop its disc investigations.

As the machine went by the URIE place. the trees over which it almost
directly passed (Korman Poplars) did not just bend with the wind as if' a plane
had gone by• but• in URIE•s worda• "11plD1 around on top as it they were in a
vacuum.."
KEI'l'H URIE• eight yea.rs of age. said he first saw the machine coming
dc.Ml the canyon. heading from east to 11est and following the contours of the
ground. BILLY• age ten. saw it almost imnediately. Both watched it .fly out
of' sight behind a tree in a matter of' momenta• They said they then ran to
their Father and learned that he too had seen the machine•
URIE seemed completely sincere about the inoiden-t. He said his wife
and daughter ware in the house at the time and had not seen the macbi.D&. He
questioned his brother• who also live• in the canyon. but his brother bad been
eating at the time and had seen nothing. URIE and his two boys maintained
that they had never before seen one ot -the discs. URIE. when interviewed• ap
peared to be a sober. m.dqle-E\ged man.
JOHJrlmc)sNAU. the "Times Newa" reporter who originally .t'urnished
Special Agents with information about the incident• likewise stated that URIE
appeared cmpletely sincere about the machine.

BROWN said simply that be and HAWKINS could bear a roar. They looked
up and could see two instr\lDBnta flying at a great height. which BROWN mentioned
might have been between four thousand and six thousand feet. However. he said
he had no idea how large the devioes ware and consequently• they ma.y have been
several miles away. He said tlat he and HAWKINS were satisfied they had seen
aouething and they were very doubtful that they had seen two planes.
