This section of the FBI's 1947 flying disc file (62-HQ-83894) collects correspondence between FBI field offices and Army Air Forces intelligence. It includes a Portland prospector's claim to have seen disc objects near Mount Adams on June 24, 1947, an Air Force report on the August 1 crash near Kelso, Washington that killed investigators Davidson and Brown, and the Maury Island claims of Dahl and Crisman. Other items are an MIT analysis of cast iron fragments from New Hampshire, the A. C. Urie Twin Falls sighting, and the Bureau's decision to stop its disc investigations.

The records include high-profile incident accounts, photographic evidence from sites like Oak Ridge, TN, and technical proposals regarding potential propulsion systems. Additional topics include convention programs, researcher accounts, and extensive media coverage from the period. This file is partially posted on FBI vault with more redactions and some pages missing. Included here is the complete case file with several newly declassified pages and only minor redactions.

Dear Mr. Arnold:
I have just read an aocount in the Chicago Tribune oonoerning
an aerial train composed or at least 9 units shaped like a
pie-plate and silvery in color, traveling at 1200 m.p.h. near
Mount Ranier, as witnessed by you while flying in the vicinity.
This is quite important to me, because I have in my possessjon
numerous independent confirmations of what you saw. although none
in as great detail as your account. I am interested in publishing
an article in our magazine, written from a personal aooount by
yourself, and accompanied by pix of yourself. plane, and rough
sketches by yourself, of what you saw.
If you oare to do this for me, I am prepared to pay our usual
rates of 2¢ perword, plus $5.00 for each photograph you can
provide, or for each sketch which can be used by our art staff
to illustrate the article.
Included in this material, we'd like a short biographical
sketch of yourself as •author background• material. The
article anuld appear under your by-line.
If you are not interested, I w,uld at least appreciate a
letter from you, confinning the newspaper story.
