This U.S. Department of War file, undated, holds checklist summaries of incidents 1 to 100 of unidentified flying objects reported in 1947 and early 1948. The first entries cover sightings of silver discs and spheres by officers and staff at Muroc Army Air Field on 7 and 8 July 1947. Next come the Portland, Oregon police reports of 4 July, a United Air Lines crew near Emmett, Idaho, and a set of 30 December flame and explosion reports from California and Nevada. The file ends with two Finnish sightings.

Each of these incident summaries includes a "Check-List - Unidentified Flying Objects" that contains details about the incident. Many summaries also include witness lists or statements and other narrative reports or descriptions.

Capt R. J. Smith, UAL Pilot, enroute to Seattle reported that he and the entire crew of the westbound UAL plane saw nine flying discs near Humitt, Idaho. At first he saw 5 discs flying what appeared to be a loone formation." They called Narty Narrow, Stewartess, to the cockpit to verify that they were actually seeing the discs. She saw them too. Then they saw 4 more of them, three cluster together, and a 4th flying by itself, way off in the distance. Cayt Andh described them as follows: 5 "something" which were "thin and smooth on the bottom and rough appearing on top." Silhouetted against sunset shortly after the plane took off at 6:04 p.m. "We saw them clearly." he reported. "We followed them in a northwesterly direction for about 45 miles. Finally they disappeared. We were unable to tell whether they outsped the plane or disinterred. he couldn't determine the shape "We can't say whether they were saucer- like, oval or anything also." "But whatever they were, they were not their aircraft, nor were they smoke or clouds." DELIABILITY: Corroborated report by a UAL Pilot CONFIDENTIAL
