This Air Materiel Command file, released by the U.S. Department of War, holds Incident Summary Sheets 173 through 233, sent under a 1949 transmittal. Most of the sheets record sightings of unidentified aerial objects in 1948 and early 1949. They cover Santa Fe, New Mexico, San Pablo, California, Honolulu, Kentwood, Louisiana, and Jackson, Mississippi. Each sheet gives the observer's details and the object's size, speed and shape, and often an investigator's note on how reliable the witness seemed. The file ends with a blank guide for investigating reports, including radar sightings.

## SECRET

A bright flaming orange object similar in shape to an egg with a tail was observed near Peace River, Alberta Province, some 250 miles NW of Edmonton, by 1st Lt James Toomay & S/Sgt Onno C. Blink, Radio Operator, while on first leg of flight from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to Kittigasuit, N. W. The object was momentarily sighted above a deck of broken stratus clouds. The crew were flying at 7,000 ft MSL on top of an overcast when the object was sighted. Altitude was judged as approximately 18,000 feet and the object appeared in a shallow dive. There was no sound. Object had a tail which tapered to a point. It was on a southwest heading at an unknown speed. As it passed it momentarily illuminated the sky behind it.
