This Air Materiel Command file, released by the U.S. Department of War, holds Incident Summary Sheets 173 through 233, sent under a 1949 transmittal. Most of the sheets record sightings of unidentified aerial objects in 1948 and early 1949. They cover Santa Fe, New Mexico, San Pablo, California, Honolulu, Kentwood, Louisiana, and Jackson, Mississippi. Each sheet gives the observer's details and the object's size, speed and shape, and often an investigator's note on how reliable the witness seemed. The file ends with a blank guide for investigating reports, including radar sightings.

Each of these incident summaries includes a "Check-List - Unidentified Flying Objects" that contains details about the incident. Many summaries also include witness lists or statements and other narrative reports or descriptions.

About 1610, 17 Oct 1948 while at his home at 3rd and Lauf Ave. Crescent City, Calif, E. W. Allen saw a silver colored object at an estimated height of about 10,000 ft which resembled a plane traveling at high speed. Object was shaped like a bullet, no wings being noticeable. However, a tail structure was visible. The object had the appearance of being nickel-plated. No smoke or noise was noticeable. Mr Allen is a man between 45 and 50 yrs of age and has a good reputation among friends and neighbors, is of average intelligence and good character. Local flight schedules revealed no known flights. No releases of test vehicles in vicinity at the time.
