This Air Materiel Command file, released by the U.S. Department of War, holds Incident Summary Sheets 173 through 233, sent under a 1949 transmittal. Most of the sheets record sightings of unidentified aerial objects in 1948 and early 1949. They cover Santa Fe, New Mexico, San Pablo, California, Honolulu, Kentwood, Louisiana, and Jackson, Mississippi. Each sheet gives the observer's details and the object's size, speed and shape, and often an investigator's note on how reliable the witness seemed. The file ends with a blank guide for investigating reports, including radar sightings.

2. Where Sighted: Ascension Parish, Township 10 South, Range 4 East 50 miles from New Orleans, La - ground

8. Size of Object(s): Approximately the length of a passenger aircraft

9. Color of Object(s): white-hot

10. Shape (Sketch if Possible) cone-shaped

11. Nature of Luminosity: Seemed to be a white-hot cone. The object dis- (directed beam of light?) played no lights but seemed encased in flame. Did not light up the area.

12. Altitude of Object: 1500 to 2000 ft (estimated)

15. Estimated Distance of Object from Observer: 3/4 miles away

14. Estimated Speed of Object: Approx 200 MPH

15. Time in Sight: Sufficiently long to enable Williams to make a fairly detailed observation. Approximately 10 seconds. 16. Tactics: Straight and level flight

19. Apparent Construction: "flame"
