This Air Materiel Command file, released by the U.S. Department of War, holds Incident Summary Sheets 173 through 233, sent under a 1949 transmittal. Most of the sheets record sightings of unidentified aerial objects in 1948 and early 1949. They cover Santa Fe, New Mexico, San Pablo, California, Honolulu, Kentwood, Louisiana, and Jackson, Mississippi. Each sheet gives the observer's details and the object's size, speed and shape, and often an investigator's note on how reliable the witness seemed. The file ends with a blank guide for investigating reports, including radar sightings.

Each of these incident summaries includes a "Check-List - Unidentified Flying Objects" that contains details about the incident. Many summaries also include witness lists or statements and other narrative reports or descriptions.

## Incident 223 At 2130 hours, 5 Dec 1948, Capt Goade, flying a 0-47, No. AF 9921, enroute from Lowry AF Base, Denver, Colorado, to Williams AF Base, Chandler, Arizona, reported his position to the Control Tower, Kirtland AF Base, as being approximately 10 miles east of Albuquerque. Capt Goade stated he had seen a green flare arise from the ground to an altitude of approximately 500 ft on the east slope of the Sandia Mountains at about 2127 hours. He was flying at 18,000 ft. Stated he had just seen the same type flare at approximately 2105 hours just west of Las Vegas, New Mexico, at approximately 2105 hours. NOTE: Inquiry of local airfields both commercial and governmental unearthed no applicable explanation of this phenomena. Holloman AF Base performs no research work at night and on Sundays which involves the use of any lighting device or flares such as described.
