This Air Materiel Command file, released by the U.S. Department of War, holds Incident Summary Sheets 173 through 233, sent under a 1949 transmittal. Most of the sheets record sightings of unidentified aerial objects in 1948 and early 1949. They cover Santa Fe, New Mexico, San Pablo, California, Honolulu, Kentwood, Louisiana, and Jackson, Mississippi. Each sheet gives the observer's details and the object's size, speed and shape, and often an investigator's note on how reliable the witness seemed. The file ends with a blank guide for investigating reports, including radar sightings.

Each of these incident summaries includes a "Check-List - Unidentified Flying Objects" that contains details about the incident. Many summaries also include witness lists or statements and other narrative reports or descriptions.

Doris Croke, age 14, a ninth grade student at North Junior High, Newburgh, N. Y., reported that on the night of 29 November 1948 at precisely 8:00 while standing with two young friends on the corner of Concord St & 1st Street, that she observed a ball of fire with a long tail in the north of the sky. Course of the object was from east to west. It was visible for two seconds and then went below the horizon. She stated that while she had seen many shooting stars that she had never seen anything like this. She also described the astral phenomenon as being a "large red ball speeding thru the heavens." She was convinced that she had seen a blue-tailed comet.
