This U.S. Department of War file collects Project Sign era checklists and incident summary sheets for incidents 101 to 172. The largest item is the 18 February 1948 explosion over Norcatur, Kansas. For it the file gathers witness statements, speculative letters from Norman G. Markham, and Dr. Lincoln LaPaz's view that it was a genuine meteorite fall with curious aspects. Other entries cover B-29 crews, a two-decked wingless object over the Netherlands, a Turkish rocket report, a Moscow sighting, and George Gorman's 1 October 1948 Fargo encounter.

## RESTRICTED At approximately 2140 hours, 30 June, a ball of fire of orange color with a streamer of bluish color trailing, traveled thru the sky in a westerly direction and disappeared over the horizon to the west. The object traveld at a very fast rate of speed. No sound was heard. Mrs. Whitehouse, wife of Maj Harvey J. Whitehouse, C. O., ASU 3319 Tennessee ORC instructors, Knoxville, Tenn. Mr. Tryus W. Setliff (See Incident 136a) Mrs. Whitehouse stated that the object remained visible for approximately 3 minutes and that the streamer emitted sparks. Mr. Setliff stated that the object was visible for about 3 seconds and traveled at an estimated speed of 1,000 miles per hour at an altitude of about 30,000 feet.
