This is a preliminary Part II transcript of the Gemini 5 (GT-5) flight crew debriefing, prepared by the Spacecraft Operations Branch of NASA's Flight Crew Support Division and dated September 2, 1965. It records astronauts Cooper and Conrad at the Crew Quarters, Cape Kennedy. They discuss how the spacecraft systems worked, including the platform and the OAMS thruster failures. The transcript also covers operational checks, visual sightings, experiments, training, premission planning, and medical aspects. It was originally classified Confidential.

This document is a preliminary transcript (Part II) derived from voice recordings of the Gemini 5 flight crew technical debriefing. NASA conducted this debriefing between August 30, 1965, and September 2, 1965, at the Crew Quarters, Cape Kennedy, Florida. Astronauts L. Gordon Cooper and Charles “Pete” Conrad described observing debris and “snow” and “all sorts of glittering pieces of this, that and the other thing” in the “Visual Sightings” section of the document (pages 157-220).
30 Conrad Cooper Conrad Cooper shows that it is . The Pulse mode was very economical on fuel and I felt that in the sinru.latc,r you had a little more authority than you actually did in the spacecraft . The spacecraft had slightly less authority in Pulse than the sinru.lator does . Inci dentally, you can use Pulse just for a month of Sundays and never see the fuel go down on the 0AMS gage at all. You can use Pulse all day long with using little fuel usage . Horizon s can, the primary Scanner was inoperative as was stated e3.Tlier . The Secondary Scanner worked fine. The sca::mers, I think, operated quite satisfactorily. We had a lot of scanner dropout in the primary and eiren in the secondary. We had some dropout in the :iecondary when we first were going in and out of i;unlight areas . But then it seemed to work allright . Horizon Scan Control Mode worked fine . Real good. It's a loose mode but it still works fir..e . It's got wide limits on it of course, -which i s okay . The mode itself works fine. There was s ome thing really fouled up in the platform rnode . It didn't work at all like it's supposed to. The platform mode is supposed to be plus or minus 5/loth of a degree . If it was plus or minus 10 degrees I 'll eat my hat . .. •
