This is a preliminary Part II transcript of the Gemini 5 (GT-5) flight crew debriefing, prepared by the Spacecraft Operations Branch of NASA's Flight Crew Support Division and dated September 2, 1965. It records astronauts Cooper and Conrad at the Crew Quarters, Cape Kennedy. They discuss how the spacecraft systems worked, including the platform and the OAMS thruster failures. The transcript also covers operational checks, visual sightings, experiments, training, premission planning, and medical aspects. It was originally classified Confidential.

This document is a preliminary transcript (Part II) derived from voice recordings of the Gemini 5 flight crew technical debriefing. NASA conducted this debriefing between August 30, 1965, and September 2, 1965, at the Crew Quarters, Cape Kennedy, Florida. Astronauts L. Gordon Cooper and Charles “Pete” Conrad described observing debris and “snow” and “all sorts of glittering pieces of this, that and the other thing” in the “Visual Sightings” section of the document (pages 157-220).

I can't really say how accurat e t hey uere because
we had a nominal mission. I think that they were
good training. I think a certain amoun t of that is
very good, very essential . I think there again we
have to be very careful not to over emphasize it.
I don ' t believe we did in our case . J think we had
just about the right amount , although I think there
was a number of people who were concerned that we
could have used maybe more DCPS .
I'll say one thing about the DCPS hor izon. I
thought that that worked out just almost the way
it actually happened.

Boy , that horizon came in the window just about

I think that DCPS should really be utilized to ad
vantage as far as this out-the- 'window reference . Just
crank it just a l ittle beyond and do a little bit of
work as far as out- the-window referencing and I think
it will be an extreme help .
I wonder i f we might not be able to do some help
on platforrn aligning and this s ort of :3tuff. I
woul d like to go back again and look at the DCPS
