National Aeronautics and Space Administration · 1965 · 325 pages · text from the file's own layer

This is a preliminary Part II transcript of the Gemini 5 (GT-5) flight crew debriefing, prepared by the Spacecraft Operations Branch of NASA's Flight Crew Support Division and dated September 2, 1965. It records astronauts Cooper and Conrad at the Crew Quarters, Cape Kennedy. They discuss how the spacecraft systems worked, including the platform and the OAMS thruster failures. The transcript also covers operational checks, visual sightings, experiments, training, premission planning, and medical aspects. It was originally classified Confidential.

From the source:Release of 2026-06-12 Incident: August 30 - September 2, 1965, Cape Kennedy, Florida. This document is a preliminary transcript (Part II) derived from voice recordings of the Gemini 5 flight crew technical debriefing. NASA conducted this debriefing between August 30, 1965, and September 2, 1965, at the Crew Quarters, Cape Kennedy, Florida. Astronauts L. Gordon Cooper and Charles “Pete” Conrad described observing debris and “snow” and “all sorts of glittering pieces of this, that and the other thing” in the “Visual Sightings” section of the document (pages 157-220).

at schematics when we were up there. Don't think we
didn't with the troubles we had. We used everything
in that reentry book . There is only one book that we
didn't take out of its holder and that w~s the REP
and that is because we gave up the REP, or we would
have used that one. And this big flight plan like this,
I'd recommend that you make it even bigger. You've
seen how much writing we did in it. I recomment that
you use the same procedure of keeping a log book and
a flight plan, because two guys are working all the
time. You put it down in the log book and then you
write it down in the flight plan, and this helps you
organize it . By writing it down in the flight plan
is when we really recognized just what we had tc unstow
and how we had to put it together to make that series
pass work right. It took us three days to do that.
We still spent a lot of time thinking about this . The
maps--boy, that's another thing. If we didn't have
that map, we wouldn't have known where in the hell we
were.
Cooper Yes, that orbital map-
Conrad Those map updates were the greatest !
Cooper I'll tell you the map that was the useful one was the
