This is a preliminary Part II transcript of the Gemini 5 (GT-5) flight crew debriefing, prepared by the Spacecraft Operations Branch of NASA's Flight Crew Support Division and dated September 2, 1965. It records astronauts Cooper and Conrad at the Crew Quarters, Cape Kennedy. They discuss how the spacecraft systems worked, including the platform and the OAMS thruster failures. The transcript also covers operational checks, visual sightings, experiments, training, premission planning, and medical aspects. It was originally classified Confidential.

This document is a preliminary transcript (Part II) derived from voice recordings of the Gemini 5 flight crew technical debriefing. NASA conducted this debriefing between August 30, 1965, and September 2, 1965, at the Crew Quarters, Cape Kennedy, Florida. Astronauts L. Gordon Cooper and Charles “Pete” Conrad described observing debris and “snow” and “all sorts of glittering pieces of this, that and the other thing” in the “Visual Sightings” section of the document (pages 157-220).

You are completely blinded because when you have gotten used to the outside--sunlit earth--and you come back in ..the cockpit, it takes a few seconds to adapt to seeing things inside. Intensity controls--! think they were f:.ne . I thought they worked pretty well, and I must say1, as Pete mentioned, I did like thos e red lights very well . Fingertip lights-they worked out all r :.ght. A flashli ght would have been better, but t he fingertip lights are f i ne. Onboard data- Flight plan strip we r eally didn ' t use, We used our own checkoff list, because all we had on the flight plan strip was checkoff lists . You couldn't read it at night , and we just put something on there beca1::se it was going to be in the spacecraft . You didn ' t use it? I set it up in the proper places , but ar.ytime I really used a checkoff list, I used this one right here . And I think that one is going to be replaced by a clock. Yes . Checkl ist cards- - I can't s ay too much for them. They are really good. We beat them over the head and we reworked them and EO♦~ liiM-iJiO.L
