National Aeronautics and Space Administration · 1965-06-09 · 290 pages · text from the file's own layer

This is a preliminary transcript of Part II of the Gemini 4 (GT-4) flight crew debriefing, prepared by NASA's Spacecraft Operations Branch, Flight Crew Support Division, and dated June 18, 1965. The debriefing began aboard the recovery ship USS Wasp and ended at the Manned Spacecraft Center. In it, astronauts McDivitt and White discuss how the spacecraft systems performed, including the platform, OAMS, RCS and control modes. They also cover operational checks, visual sightings, experiments, mission planning and training, and give recommendations for future crews.

This document is a preliminary transcript (Part II) derived from voice recordings of the Gemini 4 flight crew debriefing taken aboard the recovery ship, USS Wasp, on June 9, 1965. Part II of this document contains the “Visual Sightings” section of the debriefing (pages 196-224), where astronauts James McDivitt and Edward White describe their observations while aboard the spacecraft.

You lmow even if we can ' t get something that they
can pipe into the spacecraft, at the very least
we ought to TM the pressura.nt pressure down to the
~ound and back up again , or something, and get ,
some sort of calibration curve--
So that we'd lmow what we have remaining in the
a .dapter.
We could at least call the people down at the
ground and say, "How much water do we have left?"
That ' s right. And I think we ought to be able to
tell what our bottle has inside of it in the
spacecraft .
Yes, I 1:h:ink they're really two separate things .
I think first of all you've got to know the
total water that you've got left and the rate
that it's going down. I think the second thing
that Ed's pointing out is that we don't even have
a:n:y way of telling what the water supply is in the
spacecraft. The first clue that you get that
you're out of water is you just run out of water.
The lighting on the water management panel I
think is just about non-existent. You can see it
in the daytime. If you know the position of the
