Preliminary Gemini 4 Crew Debriefing, Part I, 1965

This is a preliminary transcript of Part I of the Gemini 4 (GT-4) flight crew debriefing. The Spacecraft Operations Branch of NASA's Flight Crew Support Division prepared it on June 16, 1965, from recordings of the debriefing held aboard the USS Wasp on June 9, 1965. In it, astronauts McDivitt and White describe the mission from an operational viewpoint, covering countdown, powered flight, insertion, orbital operations, reentry, landing and recovery. According to the preface, visual sightings were left for a later part.

As we came up on Carnarvon , I thought that we
were in excellent shape . We had a lo t of spare
time . We could get ready for retrofire . We
came up to the United States and ran a pass
across the United States . We got the updat e
times and we got all the reentry quantities
~hat we needed, both with and without OAMS .
They told us that they had a valid load in the
TRS . At this time , I assumed that they
checked the TRS, but when we got our early
retrofire , I wondered if anyone really had
checked the time .
I know it was off at least a second. · I'd
estimate it was off a little more than a
second.
A second and a half, probably. No more than
two seconds because we didn't arm it until
three seconds• But it sure fired shor tly after
that .
Yes. One thing that we got was different. All
our quantities checked out except for one.
