This is a preliminary transcript of Part I of the Gemini 4 (GT-4) flight crew debriefing. The Spacecraft Operations Branch of NASA's Flight Crew Support Division prepared it on June 16, 1965, from recordings of the debriefing held aboard the USS Wasp on June 9, 1965. In it, astronauts McDivitt and White describe the mission from an operational viewpoint, covering countdown, powered flight, insertion, orbital operations, reentry, landing and recovery. According to the preface, visual sightings were left for a later part.

Astronaut Ed White recounts seeing “sparkles” during the flight.

You could see the visual cues out the window. You were watching your gages, Jim. Were t here clouds out there? No, but I could see it in the clear blue sky. Could you? Yes . I could see the motion. The event timer s t arted just like it should, Of course , that 's the best display inside the space craft for lift-off. The event timer starts , and it did, We got both clocks started with the t ime hack. had a watch hack on lift-off and the ... handle going. I knew when the engine ignited , within half a second accuracy. Three seconds later I was waiting for the lift-off and it came right at three seconds , We could tell ignition , too .
