National Aeronautics and Space Administration · 1965-06-09 · 340 pages · text from the file's own layer

This is a preliminary transcript of Part I of the Gemini 4 (GT-4) flight crew debriefing. The Spacecraft Operations Branch of NASA's Flight Crew Support Division prepared it on June 16, 1965, from recordings of the debriefing held aboard the USS Wasp on June 9, 1965. In it, astronauts McDivitt and White describe the mission from an operational viewpoint, covering countdown, powered flight, insertion, orbital operations, reentry, landing and recovery. According to the preface, visual sightings were left for a later part.

probably one of the weakest points in our flight
pl anning-- trying to get times correlated .
This correlation between one time and the other
time is hard to handle . We were getting start
times in GMT. We sai d that we wanted these start
times in GMT because this i s the only officia l
time that we had. The elapsed times were just for
planning. We only kept them to the nearest two
or three minutes . I started my Omega watch on
elapsed time a t take- off, and I just let it run
through the whole flight. I never set it . I
never checked elapsed time or anything. It could
have been off two or three minutes , but I was
doing the flight plan to the nearest iO minutes
off the book here. When we got retrofire times
and when we got start t imes for things, we got
them in GMT . It made it awfully confusing in the
flight plan by switching back and forth,
Fortunately, we got off at 15 : 15 which is better
than getting off at 12:36 or something like that .
On the Apollo mission we ' ve got a better set of
clocks . We're going to have Mission Time and
Phase Time , so whenever you start a new phase
