Preliminary Gemini 4 Crew Debriefing, Part I, 1965

This is a preliminary transcript of Part I of the Gemini 4 (GT-4) flight crew debriefing. The Spacecraft Operations Branch of NASA's Flight Crew Support Division prepared it on June 16, 1965, from recordings of the debriefing held aboard the USS Wasp on June 9, 1965. In it, astronauts McDivitt and White describe the mission from an operational viewpoint, covering countdown, powered flight, insertion, orbital operations, reentry, landing and recovery. According to the preface, visual sightings were left for a later part.

Astronaut Ed White recounts seeing “sparkles” during the flight.

and I didn't feel like zapping the spacecraft all
around. We had some more updates , tape, and a
medical data pass for myself at 45 : 45 . We got the
word to delete Translations 2-A. At that time
they put in D- 9--the first D-9 with fuel .
We also scrubbed the Horizon Scan Moonset Check
at 46 : 33 , or whenever that is .
Right . It was schedul ed with the platform up
and we didn ' t have it up .
Also I ' ve got the Scanner Thruster Plum Checks
scrubbed at 47 :40 ,
Also a deletion of the ES Sensor - ON because
we weren ' t going to translate . So at 14:14 we
had our first D- 9 Experiment with OAMS .
We were both up .
Right .
This was the first one with fuel and the first
big disappointment of the experiments .
Right . It was certainly very difficult to use .
This is where we tried to do the dayside pass
when we had stars , and we couldn ' t see past the
nose of the spacecraft .
We didn ' t get any stars so actually the run was
