This is a preliminary transcript of Part I of the Gemini 4 (GT-4) flight crew debriefing. The Spacecraft Operations Branch of NASA's Flight Crew Support Division prepared it on June 16, 1965, from recordings of the debriefing held aboard the USS Wasp on June 9, 1965. In it, astronauts McDivitt and White describe the mission from an operational viewpoint, covering countdown, powered flight, insertion, orbital operations, reentry, landing and recovery. According to the preface, visual sightings were left for a later part.

189 White McDivitt White McDivitt White McDivitt White McDivitt sundown we'd call out the booster a couple of more times before we finally figured out that this was not the booster, but a planet . One or two times I'm fairly confident I saw the booster . You're pretty sure you saw it? Yes. That was the booster . Well, I was pretty confident that I saw it flashing , too . But later on I watched th2,t star , that particular planet, come up. I sat right there and watched i t, and it flickered as it came up t hrough the atmosphere . Yes, I agree with you . So, it could have been that we were just really looking for the booster and at that particular time we looked out and saw this thing and it flickered. I spent one whole sunset doing nothing but keeping my eye out for that planet. Sure enough it popped up and I saw it. But, you know never flickered . It flickered . I watched it as it flickered. It flickered all the way up I watched the t hing as it set , and it flickered all the way down- the last at 10 degrees or so. This is exactly ~Fif)ENTIAt
