Preliminary Gemini 4 Crew Debriefing, Part I, 1965

This is a preliminary transcript of Part I of the Gemini 4 (GT-4) flight crew debriefing. The Spacecraft Operations Branch of NASA's Flight Crew Support Division prepared it on June 16, 1965, from recordings of the debriefing held aboard the USS Wasp on June 9, 1965. In it, astronauts McDivitt and White describe the mission from an operational viewpoint, covering countdown, powered flight, insertion, orbital operations, reentry, landing and recovery. According to the preface, visual sightings were left for a later part.

first mentioned . I think the next thing we
should do :;s go through the interim o~bits, about
50 or 55 , or ho~ever many there were, where we set
abo~.1t to save up enough fuel to do soJ1ething con
structive, to check on our orbit to see what it
was, to see how we were d,3caying, what our life
time expecta':lcy would be , and perform the exper
iments that we'd initial ly set out to do on ~ur
flight plan. Although, it's not going to be of
much use to go through it in a chronological
ord.er , I suppose that is probably the bes t way.
As I just finished saying, we're not going to
get a.'1 awful lot 0 1.1t of going thro·.1gh the flight
plan sequentially, but we'll do it quickly and
then we ' ll co:ne back and discuss each experiment
o~ operation, check as entity in itself, a"ld
we'll dis8uss the systems as an entity, too .
We ' ll do this, generally, in elapsed time .
