This is a preliminary transcript of Part I of the Gemini 4 (GT-4) flight crew debriefing. The Spacecraft Operations Branch of NASA's Flight Crew Support Division prepared it on June 16, 1965, from recordings of the debriefing held aboard the USS Wasp on June 9, 1965. In it, astronauts McDivitt and White describe the mission from an operational viewpoint, covering countdown, powered flight, insertion, orbital operations, reentry, landing and recovery. According to the preface, visual sightings were left for a later part.

I , think this device is designed and has its greatest usefulness in close operation around the spacecraft . That ' s right. There is no need to maneuver off about 4-00 or 50-0 feet away because if you want to go that far, use the spacecraft. This gun is for a close working job . I think it's a valuable tool in this manner. Okay . That's the same conclusion I came to . We'd be willing to do it at close range . I ' d be willing to do it right now . I might not go tell somebody else to god~ it , but I 'd be willing , with the training that I had with it , to transfer 15 or 20 feet without a te'Lher . But , I think we sho~ld spend mome more time ·..nth the gu..-i . I think so , too . I also think it would be of value to go in the zero-g airplane with it . Yes , I think so, too . I think the work that we might do in the z.aro--g airplane doesn't necessarily have to be done in CONFI0El'<JTl~t
