This is a preliminary transcript of Part I of the Gemini 4 (GT-4) flight crew debriefing. The Spacecraft Operations Branch of NASA's Flight Crew Support Division prepared it on June 16, 1965, from recordings of the debriefing held aboard the USS Wasp on June 9, 1965. In it, astronauts McDivitt and White describe the mission from an operational viewpoint, covering countdown, powered flight, insertion, orbital operations, reentry, landing and recovery. According to the preface, visual sightings were left for a later part.

It had smooth corners and the only thing I could

There isn ' t anything to hold onto . I think you

didn't want to fool with it .
As it turned out we really needed that antenna
be~ause that was the antenna thu.t we used the
whJle flight - -that stub antenna in the nose .

When we opened up the spa~ecraft the hatch came
open with a bang. The air that wa had inside
was obviously of greater pressure tha':1 that o:1t
sitle , and we had a great outflow of t hings inclu
ding a piece of foam that we had used to pack our
tnA.neuvering gun in it ' s box . It was the first
thing t hat we put in o=bit . But then throughout
the time thit Ed was out, he wanted the doJr wide
