National Aeronautics and Space Administration · 1965-06-09 · 340 pages · text from the file's own layer

This is a preliminary transcript of Part I of the Gemini 4 (GT-4) flight crew debriefing. The Spacecraft Operations Branch of NASA's Flight Crew Support Division prepared it on June 16, 1965, from recordings of the debriefing held aboard the USS Wasp on June 9, 1965. In it, astronauts McDivitt and White describe the mission from an operational viewpoint, covering countdown, powered flight, insertion, orbital operations, reentry, landing and recovery. According to the preface, visual sightings were left for a later part.

flight . Something that we 'd gone out to the
spacecraft t o feel . We knew just about what t he
force was , but it was pretty high.
Okay. At thi s time I had certain things that I
had to accomplish . I had to mount the camera
on the back of the adapter , and mount t he
umbilical guar d on the edge of t he door . I
elected, as I had pl anned , to go ahead and mount
the camera f irst and then the umbilical guard .
I mounted the camera and it went on without too
much difficulty. The t hree little lugs on the
bottom are a good mounting scheme . I think I
would make a littl e easier engaging device for
working out in a hard suit . I had familiarity
with it , and it did lock up there all right .
The umbilical guard for the umbilical on the
side of the door took me a little longer to
mount . Back to opening the hatch--I had the
thermal gloves on when we were opening t he
hatch , and because of the fine work I had to do
with the little gain and the drive lugs up
there , I had to remove the thermal gloves so
thtt I could actually actuate those small
l evers. I couldn ' t do them with any precision
