This Federal Bureau of Investigation Seattle field office file (100-18945) gathers flying saucer material from 1952 to 1960. It holds newspaper clippings, citizen complaint forms and agent memoranda about sightings over Pasco, Kennewick, Seattle, Richland and the Hanford reservation, Spokane and other Washington locations. The file records 1952 agreements with military intelligence on passing reports to OSI and the Air Force. One Hanford sighting from 1953 was attributed to a meteorological balloon. The FBI itself carried out no investigations.

# Did Satellite Section Fall? Two Hanford engineers, who saw a brilliant light fall from the sky Thursday morning have concluded that they may have seen a piece of a satellite drop. Explorer III was due to fall from its orbit today. The men, Abe Dunning and Carl Wait, were traveling due south from White Bluffs to the 200 Area when a brilliant light came within the view of the windshield. They spotted the light simultaneously. Dunning figured it was about 20 degrees above the horizon and a little east of south. The object seemed to burn out before it reached the ground. Both men checked their watches. It was 11:18 a.m. "The brilliance of the object is what was so remarkable," Dunning said. Even in the bright sunlight, the object shown. Dunning said he could make no estimate of how far distant the light was.
